KATHMANDU: Floods and landslides have hit many places of the country this monsoon. Surkhet is one such place. Houses have been washed away leaving people homeless. With food and shelter problems, they are facing health and sanitation issues. To provide relief to the victims, other people are taking up many challenges to collect funds and necessary items. The latest to offer helping hands are the rock musicians of Nepal.

To raise funds for the flood victims of Surkhet, Music For Relief — Fundraiser Concert for West Nepal Relief was organised on September 6 at Moksh Live. The concert was an initiative by Mukti Shakya of Mukti N Revival, but it was a joint effort by the rock musicians of Nepal to support the West Nepal flood survivors. Entertaining the crowd with Chaubandi Cholo, Kanchi Nani Blues, Bujhai Deu, La Chaku Weka Same Baji among others, Shakya fulfilled his wish to do a charity show.

“I had been wanting to do a charity show for a long time. It needs a lot of work but this time I mustered courage for it,” shared Shakya adding, “I had good vibes. There was nervousness and tension for the performance. The concert was all great as all the bands worked towards it.”

And bands like Momentum, Tumbleweed, The Midnight Riders and Cobweb were the other bands who backed him up free of charge. The concert wouldn’t have been possible without its supporters like Party Nepal, Silence Entertainment, Moksh, Little Star Records for venue to lighting to sound system. Nobody charged a penny.

With their music, the leading rock musicians of Nepal could get more than Rs 150,000 from the fundraiser concert, while more donations are pouring in. It included ticket selling and personal contributions.

“It is an amazing contribution,” Shree Gurung, Director of Party Nepal remarked. Gurung has been devoting his time to provide relief for the flood victims and he is “really thankful” for the help from musicians. “The concert is not just about financial support but it spreads awareness. As public figures support the cause, the new generation learns from them to support it,” he added.
